The Borealis chemical plant in Stenungsund is on fire.

Heavy smoke comes out of the plant.

The public is urged to stay indoors and close doors, windows, and ventilation.

The rescue service has been operational since 21 and has requested help from Gothenburg.

“It is a smashed compressor that burns and caught fire in a gas pipeline,” says Dan Lindqvist at the Gothenburg Post rescue service.

You can see a lot of smoke coming out of the factory.

– We are there and we help the rescue service. We have blocked a road, says Martin Hallberg, the police officer on duty.

The chemical factory in Stenungsund is on fire.

A VMA has been issued, an important message to the public.

“The rescue officer urges everyone in the area to enter and close doors, windows, and ventilation. For more information, listen to Sweden’s P4 Radio Gothenburg, ”the message reads.

Borealis, which has several plants in Stenungsund, is the only polyethylene manufacturer in Sweden.

It is the so called cracker facility of the company that is on fire. There, the raw material, ethylene and propylene, is used to make polyethylene in another factory in the complex. The capacity is 620,000 tons of ethylene and propylene per year.

Polyethylene is used in products primarily in the cable and pipe markets.
