In February, the news came that Robel Fsiha had tested positive for doping. It was turned off while awaiting investigation.
Today the message arrived. Fsiha, who won European gold in cross country in 2019, will be suspended for four years.
– I’m a little surprised that the message has arrived. We have not received any formal decision. A little surprised that it comes this way through the media. Regarding the suspension, I don’t have much to comment on. I suppose the doping committee has made a correct assessment, Secretary-General Stefan Olsson tells SVT Sport.
“A very special situation”
How does the decision feel?
– It is a very special situation. Very sad for everyone involved. But we have prepared for this and again believe that anti-doping work is working. Now Robel has to accept his punishment and we must declare that we must return an EM gold to someone who deserves it better.
– There is still an opportunity to appeal to the Riksidrottsnämnden. But there is nothing I know at the moment. If the final verdict turns out like this, it will surely also be necessary to return European gold.
