The government’s economic crisis package has so far had a budgetary impact of over SEK 200 billion. On Thursday, Finance Minister Magdalena Andersson (S) also adjusted the forecast for short-term layoffs. More than half a million Swedes are now expected to have been covered by the measure by the end of the year.
– These are historical investments that are being made now. Add to that what we do on the liquidity side, and we are up to over SEK 700 billion. We must bet and we want to bet, but there are no countless sources here. Somewhere there is a limit, Prime Minister Stefan Löfven (S) says at a press conference.
Löfven cautions that the crown crisis may be followed by further crises and that Sweden must therefore keep up with the economy.
– When this is over, there is no guarantee that you will be calm for ten years. There may be something else we don’t know. So I feel the responsibility to tell the Swedish people that we have the resources to do it. Therefore, we cannot act as if we have infinite resources. We do not have.
Löfven: “Not infinite with resources”
At the same time, the Prime Minister emphasizes that Sweden has had a good starting position.
– We have the opportunity to do this because at the beginning of the crisis we had very strong government finances and little public debt. Many countries would like to be in that situation. There are also more resources for a prolonged crisis and to restart the economy, but we do not have infinite resources.
Swedes should be prepared for the crisis to last, says Stefan Löfven.
– We have a very serious economic situation and it is very likely that it will affect the country for a fairly long time.
Do you see any reason to renegotiate the January deal after the crown crisis, or will all points be implemented?
– We are not there yet on long roads, I am not ready to make that assessment. The situation is very likely to be different. Then you get to see. We defend the January agreement, but we also have to do an analysis: is it something that has changed so much that we have to think about it? But cooperation I will appreciate.
Ebba Busch calls for transparency
During Thursday’s parliamentary questioning session, KD leader Ebba Busch called for more transparency in the government’s ongoing strategy work, where the advantages and disadvantages of future measures are reported, to anchor decisions more firmly. Swedish.
– We work with the Public Health Authority with a series of future perspectives, how to get out of this situation, regarding restrictions and finances. Before summer, we will work to give the best possible advice to the population. At the same time, the Prime Minister announced that the entry ban into Sweden will be extended until June 15. This applies to foreigners who continue to travel to Sweden from countries outside the EU, with the exception of, for example, Norway and the United Kingdom. The message comes the day after Foreign Minister Ann Linde (S) announced that the Foreign Ministry’s recommendation for unnecessary travel will run until July 15.
