Halland, Örebro County, and Jönköping County are the latest in a series of Swedish regions to introduce stricter advice due to the ongoing spread of Covid-19. The tightening has already been carried out in Stockholm, Uppsala, Västra Götaland, Östergötland and Skåne.

– This means that seven out of ten Swedes are now covered by stricter advice, says Stefan Löfven (S).

According to the Prime Minister it is Events in the country are worrying.

– The situation is very serious. Today, intensive care units are increasingly used to care for patients with severe coviditis. There are also many signs that the death toll will rise, says Stefan Löfven.

“Today, more and more intensive care units are used to care for patients with severe coviditis,” said Stefan Löfven during today’s press conference.

Almost 6,000 people has so far died with confirmed covid-19 in Sweden. Stefan Löfven emphasizes that there may be more restrictions in the future if development continues in the wrong direction.

– The government can quickly make new intervention decisions and, at the same time, more regions can soon be considered for stricter advice. This is because we see development rapidly going in the wrong direction in many places in Sweden, he says.

The rules for restaurants, cafes and bars are already tightening. A maximum of eight people are allowed to sit around the same restaurant table starting Tuesday.

– This restriction will make it easier for restaurants to run a more contagious business, says Stefan Löfven.

Emphasize that all Citizens have the obligation and responsibility to comply with current advice and restrictions, including:

● Refrain from having physical contact with people other than those who live.

● Avoid staying indoors where congestion may occur.

● Refrain from parties, weddings, and large funerals.

● Employers must ensure that those who can work from home have the opportunity to do so.

– What we do now will make a difference in how and if we celebrate Lucia. What we do now will make a difference in the kind of holiday celebration we should have. This may sound harsh, but this is what reality looks like. We are dealing with a pandemic and a dangerous disease, says Stefan Löfven.

Just two weeks ago, the government and the Public Health Agency relaxed restrictions for those over 70 years old and also opened to increase the audience to 300 people at events with seated public. The relays were implemented at the same time as the spread of infection in society increased.

According to Johan Carlson, Director General of the Swedish Public Health Agency, there were good reasons to remove the special restrictions for older people.

– Now they are all those who must take the measures that previously were mainly for the elderly, says Johan Carlson.

But how does it all go together?

– There were reasons to remove some restrictions to later be able to reach a more understandable level. Then I think about the special restrictions that apply to the elderly.

– Also, it was inappropriate that only people of a certain age were responsible for the additional protective measures, says Johan Carlson.

Given the increasing spread of the infection, is there no reason to go further with the measures you are doing today?

– We want to see the effects of this first. There are reasons to have a little ice in the stomach and see what effect these measures have and how we can spoil it.

In which groups do you see the spread of infection increasing the most at this time?

– It is increasing quite generally at the moment. It is not only the group of young people that is noticeable, but we see it at different ages. This is also reflected in the fact that we are increasing the pressure on healthcare.
