The Prime Minister delivered a first speech to the nation at the beginning of the pandemic and affirms that he is now asking the Swedish people for something “very difficult but absolutely necessary”.
– The little respite we had during the summer is over. Life didn’t turn out as usual, but there were times when it almost felt that way, she says.
Stefan Löfven says that the situation is now very serious again.
– More and more people are infected. More and more IVA sites are being used to care for the seriously ill. More and more people die.
It indicates that more than 6,000 people have died.
– Let us remember that around each deceased person there are people who have been deprived of a beloved father, a beloved son or a beloved friend.
The last time Stefan Löfven gave a speech to the nation was on March 22, even then due to the pandemic. Then he said, among other things:
– We have a widespread spread of the infection in Sweden. Life, health and employment are threatened. The more they will get sick, the more they will be forced to say a final goodbye to a loved one.
“Too many have been neglected”
– The only way to face it is to face the crisis as a society in which everyone assumes responsibility for themselves, for others and for our country.
After a decline during the summer, the spread of the infection has accelerated again during the fall and, in the last few weeks, the number of people hospitalized, in intensive care and deceased has also increased considerably.
– During the fall, too many have stopped following the advice and recommendations. But now we see how people take responsibility again. How travel decreases and home work increases. Keep it up and persevere, says Stefan Löfven.
At the same time, the Prime Minister says that the situation is not hopeless after all, that health and school work.
Address a special appeal to those who do not feel that the corona pandemic concerns them.
– A grandparent who infects can die. It is for the people that you are to make sacrifices. It is for these people that you need to show determination, self-discipline and a sense of responsibility.
It clarifies that now great sacrifices are required.
– Know only people you live with, says Stefan Löfven and continues:
– All the things you would like to do, but are not necessary: Set. Cancel. Postpone.
The Expert: This spring, the virus was more unknown
Expressen political expert Viktor Barth-Kron says the clear message in Stefan Löfven’s speech was that it is serious now, and that people should follow the recommendations to reduce infection.
– It was nothing new that Löfven brought, it was a message that came for a long time. But what you can comment on is that Löfven tried to talk about Swedish work, building houses, children going to school and us doing this together.
It remains to be seen if the speech will have the same impact as this spring, says Viktor Barth-Kron.
– In the spring, they felt that his spirit remained. If you say it’s a speech to the nation, everyone stops and gathers around the campfire. It will be interesting to see if Löfven gets the impact he had that time. It is possible that the responsibility of the moment does so. But I’m not a hundred years old. This spring the virus was more unknown and then maybe they looked for more of it.
