Star restaurateur Stefano Catenacci on the charges: “I’m desperate”

It was on Monday of last week that the ETC newspaper in a report based on the testimonies of 12 different women pointed to Stefano Catenacci as a person who for several years sexually harassed parts of his female staff.

Some of the accusations were serious; however, none of the women who spoke anonymously reported Stefano Catenacci to the police.

DN also spoke with several employees who confirmed the image but chose not to name in that situation.

Already the day after the allegations were published, the management of Nobis AB decided, in consultation with Stefano Catenacci, that he would take a break from his position at Operakällaren.

Now he chooses he himself appears by name. In an open letter to Dagens Nyheter, he writes:

“In the last week, accusations have been made against me as a person and manager.

I take these accusations very seriously and from the bottom of my heart I want to apologize to those who have experienced that I have behaved inappropriately and abused my leadership. It has never been my intention to offend or insult anyone. I have many reasons to reflect on my actions.

I am exposed to accusations from people whose painful accusations I cannot answer because they want to remain anonymous.

It is my responsibility to apologize to people who have experienced that I have behaved inappropriately, but I also have an obligation to my family and my children to stand up for what is not true. I want to make it clear that the allegations that I have abused employees are not true. I strongly dispute these alleged facts. They have not taken place.

I have worked at Operakällaren for thirty years and it is a place and a job that I love. After the posts of the last week, it is with great sadness that I choose to leave the cellar of the opera and the role of the court tractor. Since the informants are anonymous, I have no opportunity to respond to their accusations. I am desperate and sad, for me and for my family. Now is the time for the investigation. “

DN has requested Stefano Catenacci for an interview, but turns it down for health reasons.

Attorney Hanna Lindblom is now representing Stefano Catenacci in two different legal proceedings in which the ETC and Expressen newspapers have been reported to the police for gross defamation.

– The accusations that are made against my client for criminal acts are very serious and are rejected, Hanna Lindblom has previously told DN.

She believes that the “media impulse” that emerged after the publication is ruthless.

– My client hardly has a social support position, which means that he will have to endure more detailed reports. I am awaiting a trial in court on media liability, says Hanna Lindblom.

It also intends to report newspapers to the Media Ethics Committee.

Margareta Thorgren, Court Press Officer, says:

– If the information is correct, I believe that their actions are the only correct thing, the person has a great responsibility in this story.
