Voter support for the Social Democrats continues to plummet.

After the peak amid a fiery corona pandemic, the party collapsed in four polls in a row.

– We are in a turbulent period, both in Sweden and throughout the Western world, says party secretary Lena Rådström Baastad.

The Crown pandemic made the Social Democrats like the train in opinion polls. But as the crisis abated, so did the support of equal voters.

In the latest Aftonbladet / Demoskop voter barometer, Social Democrats show the largest voter loss from parliamentary parties with a decrease of 1.2 percentage points. This means that the party now has 26.1 percent voter support.

This is the fourth consecutive voter barometer in which Social Democrats show a reduction in their support for voters.

– If you look at the figures of the Social Democrats this month, now is not a big change. If, on the other hand, you compare it to the top list in May of 30.1 percent, this is a drop of 4.4 percentage points, says Karin Nelsson, CEO of Demoskop.

It is primarily voters aged 50-64 who are now abandoning the Social Democrats, according to Aftonbladet / Demoskop.

“A turbulent period”

Social Democrats Party Secretary Lena Rådström Baastad comments on the result in a text message to Aftonbladet:

– We are in a turbulent period, both in Sweden and throughout the Western world. There is a lot of uncertainty and concern about the pandemic, the economic crisis and the increasing violence, and I think that is reflected in the opinion polls.

She believes that a lot will happen in public opinion in the coming months.

– At the same time, I believe that the political alternatives will be clearer in the coming weeks when we present a rebooted budget with historic investments in employment and welfare, he writes.

SD and V increase

The parties that increase the most are the marginalized. SD increases by 1.1 percentage points and the Left Party increases by 0.7 percentage points.

– At the beginning of the pandemic, the voters of SD and V approached the Social Democrats. But what we see now is that voters are returning to their original parties, says Karin Nelsson.

She says issues like migration and public order have had more space in the debate. Something in which the moderates have won.

– The moderates have been very visible lately. Especially in crime and punishment. It has had an effect on public opinion where they increase by 0.6 percentage points, he says.

The moderates now have a voter support of 22.2 percent.

The Annie effect is delayed

Something that one might have guessed was that an Annie effect would be seen in the poll, as she is now back in office as the leader of the Center party after a period of absence.

– This exam was done right when she got back, so if there are any Annie effects, it will probably take another month, says Karin Nelsson.

No major changes can be found either in voter support for the Liberals or the Green Party. They continue below the 4% barrier. The Green Party now has 3.2 and the Liberals have 3.1 percent of voter support.
