The tourism industry has been hard hit by the crown crisis. Several countries have closed their air traffic limits, and hotels and tourist attractions have been free of visitors.
But now they are working to bring life to the market once again.
The European Commission presents a strategy.
Today, the European Commission is expected to publish a strategy on how people can move freely in the EU again, when the crisis has subsided.
The plan includes proposals on how tourism should start. For example, it’s about how travel can protect itself against infection and how travel reimbursements can be guaranteed when travel companies are threatened by bankruptcy.
It is also about ensuring that the opening is carried out fairly.
– The first thing that must be resolved are border controls. Here it is important that restrictions are lifted without discriminating against people. A country should not be able to say that our borders are open to people with this passport, but not this one, EU Commission Vice President Margarethe Vestager tells SvD.
May be possible with summer trips
Margarethe Vestager tells SvD that it may be relevant to resume travel within the EU as soon as summer ends. He notes that the important figure R, which is now one in all Member States.
The R number shows how fast the virus spreads, and a low number indicates that the virus spreads more slowly.
– It is obvious that we can only give guidelines based on what we know now. We will probably know more about two or four months. But we believe that at least part of the holiday season can be saved, perhaps by extending it in the early fall, Margarethe Vestager tells SVD.
Ann Linde: don’t count on traveling
However, the Swedish government’s message has been less positive. In an interview with the SVT Weekend Study on Saturday, Foreign Minister Ann Linde said Swedes should be ready to cancel their planned trips this summer.
– I don’t think you should expect to be able to travel freely, you will not be able to travel freely after June 15. So it depends a little on how it looks in different countries. Has air traffic been launched? Said Ann Linde on the show.
