Snow advisories expected across much of the country

– We will probably come out with a lot of warnings on Wednesday. There is a lot of debate now about how we should do it, for example whether we should warn class 2 in Norrland. In southern Sweden, it will be class 1 for slippery roads or early snowfall, says Linnea Rehn, a meteorologist at SMHI.

Already on Wednesday night, the coldest air will enter the country from the northwest and move south. Initially it means rain in South Norrland, but it will eventually turn to snow in Jämtland and parts of Västernorrland and Västerbotten.

– If you look at the night until Thursday, it is like a strip of snow from Värmland and over Norrland, including the coast, but on the leading edge there is wet snow or rain. This cover goes really fast, says Linnea Rehn.

The cold front will continue it shifted south on Thursday, meaning eastern Svealand may also snow. The temperature will drop by as much as 12 degrees to zero, which means that Stockholm can also have the first snow of the year on Thursday night or overnight until Friday.

– During the weekend it will continue to be cold and snowing in the north, but in the south of Sweden the warm air will return. The snow doesn’t settle there, but we’re keeping a close eye on this now, so if something changes we’ll come out with updates, says Linnea Rehn.
