From Treriksröset in the north to Åre in the south, it is now meteorological winter, which means that the average daily temperature has been zero degrees or below for at least five days.

On the SMHI season map all of Norrbotten is covered in the dark blue color that symbolizes winter, and even some parts of Västerbotten have been cold this week.

– We had the lowest temperature record of the season on Friday morning. Then it was minus 17.8 degrees in Vilhelmina, says Sofia Söderberg, a meteorologist at SMHI.

I arrived last week the first real snowfall of the season in Sweden. This weekend it is still snowing in North Norrland, and for good reason.

– There may be greater amounts of snow in the interior of Norrbotten County, says Sofia Söderberg.

SMHI has issued a Class 1 snow warning from Sunday afternoon through Monday evening in the interior of Norrbotten County. There can be around 5-15 centimeters of snow, mainly in the western parts.

Anyone hitting the roads as early as Sunday morning and morning in central parts of the country should take it with care.

Defender SMHI class 1 by a sudden ice slide in parts of Västernorrland County and Jämtland County, where rain can fall on cold roads.

In the south, however, it is still relatively mild.

– It’s cloudy, it rains occasionally and it can be a bit hazy. In the Baltic Sea landscape, mainly on Öland, Gotland and along the coast, there can be some sunshine, says Sofia Söderberg.

When does winter come to Svealand and Götaland?

– You have to wait a little longer. It will remain smooth for the next 24 hours and without direct cooling at the entrance.
