Wednesday night’s handball entertainment on Swedish soil was provided by Hallby and Skövde when they first met in Jönköping, and entertainment was provided to say the least. As expected, it was even between the two teams that both hot emotions and tough defensive games pitted against each other. In the end, however, it was
It was offered both up and down for both teams during the first half at the Sports Center on Wednesday night. Home team Hallby started strong, thanks a lot to Fredrik Landin between the goal posts, but after ten minutes played and a time-out, Skövde was ready for the match again.
Skövde’s defense did not invite any easy goals for the home team, at the same time Hallby’s central defense let the visitors pass too easily during first-half periods. With ten minutes to go at the break, it was Skövde who took the lead in the match and despite a messy and hectic finish, managed to keep it at the break.
Half time result: 13-14
The second half followed the same image of an even and difficult match as the first, when the two teams succeeded each other in the goal record. Hallby ran forward and Skövde pushed through the home team defense, but there were also plenty of turnovers and tough physical play from both sides.
Midway through the second half, the result showed exactly the same goal difference as at half-time, 21-22, despite sending off at Skövde taking turns in the next few minutes. Hallby continued to neglect and drop balls, which opened up for an extended lead for visiting Skövde.
An extended lead will never come though, but Hallby is still struggling from a goal disadvantage, thanks largely to Charles Hugoson’s quick counterattack. Instead, there will be an Oskar Hedvall draw with just over five minutes to go.
Olle Ek becomes a free striker against Håvard Åsheim in Skövdemålet, and Hallby is suddenly back in the lead. After a timeout from Henrik Signell and a red card to Oskar Hedvall, Jack Thurin uses superiority to equalize his Skövde at 23-23.
A good attacking play by Olle Ek is missed by Hallby, and instead, Skövde has a chance to decide the match with just over a minute to play. An Andreas Söderman sent off from Hallby then knocks Skövde out of the goalkeeper and Jack Thurin decides the match when he brings the final score to 24-25 with ten seconds to go.
IF Hallby HK – IFK Skövde 24–25 (13–14)
