At least 13 seasonal workers at the Vemdalen ski resort were laid off due to a party earlier this week.

Without a chance to explain themselves, the employees were fired and had 24 hours to pack up and leave, a source with knowledge of it told Aftonbladet.

Earlier this week, Skistar employees had a party where people from different staff residences stayed at other residences in addition to their own overnight. When employee managers learned of the party, they contacted management, who arranged a meeting with Skistar CEO Stefan Sjöstrand, a source with knowledge of Aftonbladet tells.

“Today we have received information that in one of our staff houses for seasonal staff in Vemdalen, people have gathered at night in addition to those who live and can remain on the site. It is completely unacceptable and violates the rules we have for the accommodation of our staff, which due to the crown situation has also been further strengthened this year, ”writes Skistar CEO Stefan Sjöstrand in an internal email of which Aftonbladet was informed.

– They got a real reprimand. But staff believe the situation has been misjudged and not given a chance to explain themselves, says the source.

I have 24 hours to go

Instead, the job was terminated with immediate effect and those affected were given 24 hours to pack and leave the accommodation.

“Given the current situation with the corona pandemic, we see this type of violation of internal rules as a risk to the work environment. So the employee who doesn’t follow the rules can pose a danger to himself, his colleagues, guests he meets, and other people in the city or community. In the event of such a breach, an individual interview will be conducted with the employee in question, including a risk assessment, and then appropriate action will be taken, in this case he is fired from his job. “Writes the CEO below in the email.

Skistar’s response: sorry

In an email to Aftonbladet, Stefan Sjöstrand further writes that the incident not only violates internal company rules and also the general advice of the Public Health Agency, which the company believes it has “reported and discussed throughout the fall.”

“That we have zero tolerance for this type of violation, I find it hard to believe that someone has failed. That these young people are also getting together after all to have a party in a house of our staff with 18 people (of which 5 are not employees of SkiStar) in a house for 3 is simply regrettable, ”the CEO further writes.
