The Skåne Region will soon begin vaccinating emergency and VAT personnel. Intensive care is approaching the breaking point, and thus the region is going against the Public Health Agency’s recommendation to let care staff wait until February.
Pressured intensive care in Skåne does not want to wait: emergency care personnel will start receiving vaccinations this week, of the new deliveries expected to arrive.
The Skåne region will likely be the first in the country to administer the covid vaccine to key groups in hospital care. Iva’s staff is first in line, but it also includes emergency rooms, infection rooms, ambulance staff, and certain health center staff.
– It is an important key group to be able to care for covid patients and the most seriously ill in our hospitals. We are now manipulating to go one step further and have a plan to quickly start vaccination when the vaccine arrives in Sweden in increasing volumes, says health and healthcare director Pia Lundbom in a press release.
The idea is that the first deliveries of Moderna’s vaccine, which is expected to receive EU approval earlier this week, will be used to vaccinate emergency care personnel.
If all goes according to plan, the care staff will start getting vaccinated on Friday or Monday, and in the coming weeks.
At the same time, vaccination continues in nursing homes and staff there according to plan. It uses the Pfizer vaccine, which was the first to be approved and which Skåne receives in specific deliveries during January and February.
Everywhere in Vårdsverige has started to ferment contrary to the Swedish Public Health Agency’s recommendation that healthcare professionals should not be vaccinated until phase 2, February.
On Monday, the Västra Götaland region sent a formal request to the Swedish Public Health Agency and SKR (the municipalities and regions of Sweden) to vaccinate healthcare personnel.
However, the regions themselves have the opportunity to decide to deviate from the FHM recommendations in order of priority. Pia Lundbom made that decision for Skåne, who will probably now be the first to get vaccinated in hospitals.
