Sjöstedt (V): the choice of the route must be made now

Today, the leader of the Christian Democracy party, Ebba Busch, announced that the party is ready to file a motion of no confidence against Stefan Löfven together with the Left Party. Both the moderates and the Swedish Democrats have said they will vote in a difficult situation.

According to Jonas Sjöstedt, it is now up to Stefan Löfven whether V should proceed with a vote of no confidence.

– If you say that the parties can continue to negotiate job security, the crisis is resolved. It is obvious for a Social Democratic prime minister to say that unions are not run over.

Why are you in such a hurry?

– Now the question is decided. This choice must be made now. Should we move forward with the legislation or not? If the government backs down and lets the parties negotiate in peace and quiet, then there will be no by-elections or government crisis. We would rather make an additional decision about job security than look at when we investigate and break the Swedish model.

Want information on SVT on Sunday

Jonas Sjöstedt says the threat from the Left Party gives Löfven a good argument to back down. He thinks the Prime Minister should deliver that message already in the party leader’s debate on the SVT Agenda on Sunday.

According to the January agreement between the government, the Center Party and the Liberals, the proposals of the reading inquiry will be implemented if the social partners cannot agree. Negotiations failed on September 30. Both the Center Party and the Liberals believe the latest investigation is one of the key parts of the January agreement.

Is it responsible to lift a vote of no confidence in the middle of a pandemic?

– That’s not what we want in the first place. But we have some red lines and the government depends on the Left Party, even if you pretend not to be. Now the so-called majority have ended up at the end of the road. Start talking to us. But they refuse to speak to the Left Party and are instead willing to remove the foundations of the Swedish model, says Jonas Sjöstedt.
