A woman in her 70s is suspected of keeping her son imprisoned in an apartment in Haninge Township, where police are now investigating the crime scene.

For several years he tried to alert the welfare and social services about the woman and her child.

The man’s sister, who found him wounded and isolated in an apartment, says authorities refused to listen.

On Sunday night, a man in his 40s was found in an apartment in the Haninge municipality, south of Stockholm. His mother is suspected of imprisoning him for several years.

According to the sister, whom Expressen interviewed, the man has been in isolation for 28 years. Police cannot confirm the exact time period for TT, but say that according to the son, it is “a long period”.

The arrested woman

The mother, who is in her 70s, has been arrested for probable cause on suspicion of unlawful deprivation of liberty and causing serious bodily injury and serious bodily injury. She was questioned Tuesday afternoon and denies any wrongdoing.

– The technicians have been inside the apartment during the afternoon. Tomorrow, the man will be heard along with the plaintiff’s attorney. Only after that, tomorrow afternoon, will I make a decision on the issue of arrest, Emma Olsson, a prosecutor from the Södertörn prosecutor’s chamber, tells TT.

Occasional questioning of witnesses was also conducted during the day. Detention decisions must be made no later than Thursday at 12 noon.

According to information from the sister, the man could barely speak when they found him in the apartment. He must have been difficult to carry, toothless, and had large permanent wounds on his legs.

The sister says that for many years she noticed that she was not well in the Haninge apartment where the woman in her 70s lived with her son.

– I told the school how it is and how we have had it. But nobody has believed in me, he tells SVT Rapport.

Alerted doctors

On Sunday night, the son was taken from the apartment to the Karolinska University Hospital. Prosecutor Emma Olsson says the man had to undergo surgery due to his injuries.

– It’s a doctor who alerted the police, says Emma Olsson.

However, the man’s injuries are not considered life threatening, says Ola Österling, a press spokesman for the police in the Stockholm region.

During the day, the police will visit the hospital to interview the son.

– In the near future, we will map the life circumstances of this man and his situation, says Emma Olsson.

During the investigation, the prosecutor hopes to obtain an answer on when the man was last in contact with a doctor.

Partner remembers

The son has enrolled in primary school in Haninge. Here he has graduated from high school, but with incomplete grades in all subjects. According to information from Aftonbladet, he was pulled out of school as a teenager.

– I remember him as very kind. But he didn’t talk much, says a former TT teammate.

The classmate remembers him from the seventh grade, when they started high school together. So the memory image fails.

– I can’t tell if he graduated ninth or not. I remember her mother well, however she shopped at a grocery store I worked at after high school. During that time, I never saw the son. I thought it had moved.

The municipality has been contacted

Håkan Filipsson, Haninge Municipality Press Officer, confirms to TT that the police have contacted the municipality regarding a preliminary investigation into the illegal deprivation of liberty.

– We cooperate with the police based on that, but I cannot go further because there is suspicion of a serious crime.

TT: If a child does not show up to school for several years, how can he not be followed by the municipality when there is compulsory schooling?

– Since a preliminary investigation is underway, I do not want to speculate on the particular case. In general, when it comes to compulsory schooling, we monitor.

TT: What does that mean?

– Let us find out what happened – let us get in touch with relatives and guardians. In some cases, the incident is reported to the police, says Håkan Filipsson, emphasizing:

– Of course, we and all municipalities take compulsory schooling seriously.
