Significant increase in incidents in workplaces

The Swedish Work Environment Authority has received close to 10,000 reports of covid-related incidents in the workplace since the New Year alone.

– I will invite the social partners on the need for further measures, says Labor Minister Eva Nordmark (S) at a press conference.

In addition to homes, workplaces are the main driving forces in the spread of infection. Many employers do a lot, but it is not enough, according to the Minister of Labor.

All employers are required to ensure that people can work from home whenever possible.

– We have received signals that there are entrepreneurs who have not done it even though it is possible, says Eva Nordmark.

According to Erna Zelmin-Ekenhem, Managing Director of the Swedish Work Environment Authority, incidents where there is a risk of infection in the workplace have increased significantly.

– Many employers are doing very well, but there is potential to do even more, he says.

In the spring, the agency plans 2,000 targeted inspections across the country to check how employers are taking responsibility. This includes schools and major construction projects.
