The alarm about a fire in a vehicle on Ejdergatan in Bagaregården came at 07.49. The rescue service claims that it is a fire on the roof of a tram. According to the staff who worked on the tram, it should now have a small hole in the ceiling where the fire started.

The fire stopped tram traffic for just over an hour and a half. According to Västtrafik, lines 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11.1 and 3 were affected.

Rolls again

At 09.30, Västtrafik announces that power is back in the area and the trams are running again. Therefore, the stop has been lifted.

– The cars roll again, but it will be two hours before they roll again as they should. There are delays and several wagons are stopped due to queues, says Mette Ramquist, press officer at Västtrafik.

Powerless before

– We have completely no electricity in Gamlestan and trams cannot pass. It’s quite tricky because it’s a great center, says Camilla Kaneflo, interruption coordinator at Västtrafik.

Fire on the roof of the tram

– We have had a fire on the roof of a tram by the connector, the fire went out when we arrived but the cars do not roll. We are still on site, checking and talking to Västtrafik’s management function, says Bosse Florell of the Greater Gothenburg Rescue Service.

Västtrafik puts out replacement buses, but warns that they won’t be able to carry as many passengers as the now-canceled trams.

– They won’t cover up completely, says Camilla Kaneflo.

– We have replacement buses that are starting to pick up people now, but there are still a lot of people on site, says Camilla Kaneflo.

Then the traffic will roll again

According to Västtrafik, they have a forecast of at least two hours.

– We hope that traffic can resume at 10.30, but you can expect consequential delays We have sent informants to Central Station, Redbergsplatsen and Gamlestads Torg to adequately assist travelers. But right now it’s quite complicated, says Mette Ramquist, Västtrafik’s press officer.

Stopped trains

The Swedish Transport Administration stops train traffic to and from Gothenburg on several routes as a result of the tram fire. The reason is the risk of unauthorized persons on the tracks. The routes that stop are Gothenburg-Skövde, Gothenburg-Strömstad, Gothenburg-Karlstad, Gothenburg-Oslo.

Trains to and from Stockholm are also affected.

All traffic on the western main line is affected according to the Swedish Transport Administration.

Trains to Malmö and Borås are currently unaffected. It is unclear when the trains can run as usual again.
