MOVIE REVIEW. The replicas have higher acidity than the actual wine glass in your fist.

In the design of Elisabeth Moss, author Shirley Jackson is a nightmare as a dinner guest.

DRAMA. There is a veil of darkness and discomfort over the biography of this author. Shirley jackson (1916-1965) is best known in our time as a horror writer, the woman who wrote “The Haunting of Hill House,” which became a classic feature film in 1963 and a popular Netflix series this year (whose second season arrives in October).

Even though the time described in the movie “Shirley” occurs before she wrote her most famous novel, it is as if that ghost story leaked here and there. The walls are cracked so that it thunders in the cinema. The theater students’ exercises at Bennington College seem to belong to “Suspiria.” Twilight dominates Jackson’s house.

Strengthens anxiety and worry.

The filmmakers effectively use picture and sound solutions that amplify anxiety and distress throughout the montage. The author had problems with her psyche and health and that is where the focus is, but the film also shows a marriage between her and the literary critic. Stanley hyman that it was anything but conventional.

The story is based on a book by Susan Merrell scarf which features a fictional young couple who move in with Shirley and Stanley around 1950. The author struggles with a new book about a woman who mysteriously disappeared. Unbeknownst to the young couple, they become a target of Shirley and Stanley’s bitter games, but also a muse.

It sounds a bit like a remake of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf”. The movie is not that sharp, it has uneven moments.

But what always keeps one glued to intrigues is Elisabeth moss and Michael Stuhlbarg, phenomenal as two intellectual playmates, drenched in acid.

“Shirley” premieres tomorrow, September 11.
