“She just wanted a zero or four year suspension.”

Hours before Wednesday, it was clear that the four-year suspension sentence for the fighter Jenny Fransson stands firm.

Bo Bengtsson is Vice President of the Swedish Sports Council (RIN). For SVT Sport, he explains what the conditions were like, when they worked with the verdict and chose to confirm the decision of the Doping Board.

– Our test only focused on whether the analysis work was correct or not. All we had on the table was an acquittal or a four-year suspension. Jenny and Mats have one opinion and the Commission another. Huddinge’s lab has reported how they have done. Experts have different views on this matter, but we think Huddinge has not deviated from Wada’s specs, says Bengtsson.

“Suspension of zero or four years”

Jenny Fransson had the opportunity to demand a shorter sentence, something she gave up, Bengtsson says.

– We asked him whether he wanted to demand two or three years of punishment. She only wanted a zero or four year suspension.
