Belgian artist Delphine Boël is the daughter of the abdicated King Albert II of Belgium and, therefore, will be named princess. The described seven-year paternity case has been decided in an appeals court in Brussels.

Former King Albert recently admitted that he has a daughter who was born out of wedlock 52 years ago. This after a court ordered him to perform a DNA test when the future Princess Delphine pointed to him as her biological father.

“A victory in court can never replace a parent’s love. But it offers a sense of justice, which is reinforced by the fact that many children who have been through the same trials find the strength to face them,” their attorneys wrote. in a statement quoted by Reuters news agency.

The two children of the new princess will also receive royal titles according to the verdict: Princess Joséphine and Prince Oscar.

During her struggle to be recognized as a princess, Delphine Boël said that she was met with mistrust.

– I was constantly treated as a kind of anti-realist who tried to overthrow the institution, he said in an interview with the AFP news agency, adding:

– I suffered a lot, because it’s not true. I am a realist.

Albert II abdicated in 2013, after 20 years on the throne, in favor of his son Philippe.

Thursday’s announcement, which has yet to be released by the court, came unexpectedly when the decision was scheduled for October 29.
