In the last three years, household debt with five major credit companies offering consumer loans has increased by more than one billion SEK, according to statistics produced by SvD.
Svenska Dagbladet has calculated the amounts of the debts of five of the credit companies that have sent the most requests to the Enforcement Officer for debt collection. These are Collector Bank, Klarna, Resurs Bank, Svea ekonomi, and Qliro. Since November 2017, the amount of its debt has increased from SEK 1.5 billion to SEK 2.6 billion.
– Debts that are linked to consumption are an increasing proportion of all our cases, Johan Krantz, an analyst at the Swedish Law Enforcement Agency, tells the newspaper.
The increase is partly related to the growth of e-commerce. There, the option to defer payment or pay in installments is usually standard.
– It really doesn’t surprise me that it’s increasing. This is a natural development, as more people use these paid services, says Krantz.
