Hellberg, 65, has resigned after several years in the club’s service. He won gold at the Swedish Championship as an assistant to Kent Karlsson as early as 1989 and had the same role with Janne Andersson when the club won the Allsvenskan five years ago.
But now he’s had enough.
– I can’t leave without saying what I think. It is an obligation, to my colleagues and to IFK Norrköping. I am in a position to do that. I don’t want to do that, but I have to. I should have done it sooner, he tells Norrköpings Tidningar.
IFK Norrköping He had a shaky season to say the least and landed after an excellent start in sixth place. Financially, the club is doing well, but behind the scenes, Hellberg believes there is great dissatisfaction with the personnel policy being pursued.
– The board does not treat people in a respectful way. The board’s task is, like we in football, to make sure to motivate, inspire and encourage everyone through their coaches. Today we do not have that environment. Many in the association do not feel that support or security.
During the year, the association received attention in personnel matters. Last winter, Mikael Hansson, a former player and for several years as a players coach, had to leave his post despite strong protests from the player squad.
Recently chosen Renowned sports injury therapist Dale Reese, who also works for the national team, became involved in Helsingborgs IF. Leader Stefan Thordarson and Chief Marketing Officer Robin Bornehav are also leaving the association.
– During Janne Andersson and Jens Gustafsson’s time at the club, we have seen incredible player development. It is characterized and created by an environment, where there is always the belief in the human ability to perform, a support that can take the player to the next level and where it is okay to make mistakes as long as you act for the best of the team. It is the environment you want and should have. A large part of the association’s financial momentum is due to precisely that, through our successes and player sales.
– We do not have that atmosphere in the entire association. I see people who are not feeling well, are sad, and cannot perform at their job. It’s serious for the future of the association, says Hellberg.
He believes that President Peter Hunt is ultimately responsible and wants the annual meeting to elect a new one. In an email to Norrköpings Tidningar, Hunt responds to the criticism. It says, among other things:
“You take on the heavy responsibility of disqualifying the board with the president, the nominating committee and more, as Stefan does now. Of course, not all the decisions I make are correct. I fail from time to time and will do so in the future. However, my ambition is to act in the best interest of the association in all situations. It is a brutal attack on me and the IFK board that I consider hostile. “
