On Thursday, more than 170 members of Congress called on Donald Trump to resign, most of them Democrats. The Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Democrat Nancy Pelosi, joined those who want Trump to resign immediately.
Pelosi described in a speech Trump as a “very dangerous person” who should not stay, even if he is replaced by Joe Biden on January 20.
“Yesterday, the president of the United States encouraged an armed uprising against the United States,” Pelosi told reporters on Capitol Hill, adding that Trump committed an act designed to incite.
– I have asked the vice president to act and remove the president. If the vice president does not act, Congress can proceed with a prosecution. This has the highest priority.
– We are not a monarchy with a king, we are a republic governed by laws.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger are also demanding Trump’s resignation.
They both want Vice President Mike Pence and the administration to activate the 25th Amendment to the Constitution and topple Trump. Otherwise, Congress should bring Trump back to the Supreme Court, writes Reuters.

Four of them claim that the 25th Amendment will be used to remove Trump by January 20.

Former Donald Trump chief of staff, John Kelly, said in an interview with CNN on Thursday that he wants Trump removed:
– I think the government should meet and discuss this. What he did yesterday and has done for several months has been scandalous and what happened yesterday was a direct result of the lies and conspiracies that he spread. I would vote it out. He is a person with many shortcomings.
He also has a group Democrats in the House of Representatives, led by Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, have laid the groundwork for another federal lawsuit against Donald Trump.
On Thursday, Washington, DC Chief United States Attorney Michael Sherwin also said that he is not ruling out that President Trump could also be prosecuted in connection with Wednesday’s events:

On Wednesday, an adviser working on Iran affairs inside the White House was also fired after he wrote in a Twitter post that Trump “must go” after the assault on Capitol Hill:
“President Trump encouraged a rebel mob that attacked the Capitol today. Continue to seize every opportunity to prevent a peaceful transfer of power. These measures threaten our democracy and our republic. “Trump is completely inappropriate to remain in office and must leave,” wrote Gabriel Noronha.
According to the New York Times, which quotes the president from two anonymous sources, Donald Trump has said he is considering forgiving himself. Something that he has hinted at several times since the November 3 elections, the newspaper writes.
