According to Maxwell’s attorney, Bobbi Sternheim, the time he was in custody must have taken a heavy toll on him. According to Sternheim, Maxwell has lost seven kilos and has also started to lose his hair. Ghislaine Maxwell wanted to escape arrest by posting bail of almost a quarter of a billion crowns.

But Judge Alison Nathan rejects her request on the grounds that there is a high risk that Maxwell will try to escape justice if she were instead placed under house arrest. The judge sees Maxwell’s wealth, multiple citizenship, and the serious charges leveled against him as factors that increase the risk that he will try to leave the United States before being brought to justice.
