Kentucky Republican Senator Mitch McConnell will not recognize Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as the new president and vice president of the United States. He said it during a speech in the Senate on Monday.
McConnell repeatedly noted that President Trump has every right to take legal action against what the president suspects is election fraud:
– The president has a 100 per cent right to investigate allegations of wrongdoing. Let’s not preach now how the president should happily accept the result of the preliminary elections of the same characters who have just spent four years refusing to accept the result of the last elections.
In addition, he emphasized that the election, officially, has not been decided.
“Illegal votes to be discounted”
– No state has yet announced a final election result, and we have at least one or two states that are in the process of a recalculation.
McConnell did not elaborate on the whereabouts of the Trump administration, but said it was moving into at least five states.
– In the United States, all legal votes must be counted and all illegal votes must be counted. The process must be transparent and must be observed by all parties. We have a system for this, he said.
McConnell also took aim at the media, suggesting that they had prematurely established through their reports that Biden had won the election:
– Election forecasts and press comments should not have any veto power over the legal rights of citizens, including the president.
