SJ security representatives have previously alerted about a number of problems at the company. Train drivers are said to suffer from stress, anxiety, and difficulty sleeping as a result of unpredictable schedule changes and long days.
On Tuesday of last week, SJ presented an action plan with a series of action proposals to the protection organization. The company, among other things, has satisfied the request for monthly schedules, but at the same time recognizes that it is an opportunity because they only get the tour schedule 20 days before departure.
Security reps think not that SJ came up with solutions to all problems. In addition, they consider that the proposed measures are insufficient and lack a timetable. Therefore, they are now requesting the Swedish Work Environment Authority to intervene.
– The measures are a bit on the way, but we just don’t see that they are enough, says Jenny Bergman, security representative.
She wants SJ to follow her the regulations on the organizational and social work environment, which partly regulate the workload and working hours. Due to poor foresight, it is almost impossible to combine the profession with a family life today, says Jenny Bergman.
– We believe that the situation is acute for our drivers, he says.
Anders Holmsten, head of SJ machinists, says he is aware of the request to the Swedish Work Environment Authority, but that the authority has not yet contacted them.
“But, nothing changes in the background, but we continue to work with measures according to an action plan,” he writes to DN in an email.
