It became a new Swedish biathlon hit at Kontiolax.

Sebastian Samuelsson and Martin Ponsiluoma took second and third places in the sprint.

– I am very surprised but very happy, Samuelsson tells SVT.

The Swedish biathletes were successful yesterday. Today the Swedes weren’t much worse.

Sebastian Samuelsson failed to get it released last season, but before the World Cup premiere at Kontiolax he had high expectations.

– Shooting is much more stable than ever. I have a different self-confidence and I feel more secure. So I hope I can go faster too. I think it will be a completely different winter than last year, he said before the competitions.

“I got a little nervous”

Samuelsson, who was sixth in the distance yesterday, made an even better effort. The Swede blocked a shot on the first shot, but fired squarely on the second. In addition, he came out very well on the track and went ahead in goal.

Johannes Thingnes Bö, who shot straight, did not threaten and won by 44 seconds. But behind that, competitor after competitor entered the goal after Samuelsson and the podium was done.

– That I would be on the podium with a boom that I did not expect, I am very surprised but very happy, he tells SVT.

But it wasn’t just Samuelsson who had to get on the podium. It was a Swedish double after Martin Ponsiluoma had a good run with a boom. It was a second battle for third place and Ponsiluoma managed it by three seconds.

– It was not as easy on the body as yesterday, I felt quite hard. But I heard it was okay. I got a little nervous when I blocked one on the first lie, but then I got on well, he says.
