Sebastian Larsson took the free kick when Alexander Isak nodded at Russia.

After the game, the midfielder was open to the fact that he was happy to take more free throws during his long career with the national team.

– There have been several reasons why I have not been the first in the queue in the national team, especially in terms of fast positions and free kick to go directly to goal, when Zlatan for a long period, of course, decided for them, he says.

Sweden lined up with a young and untested team against Russia (2-1). The beginning of the match was heavy against a Russia that pushed Sweden and led the game.

But then suddenly, after just over 20 minutes, the young Swedish team took on new energy.

Ken Sema was ejected and Sebastian Larsson, who has a recognized sharp strike foot, stepped forward slightly to the left in the offensive half.

The serve was perfect, as was the timing of Alexander Isak. Sebastian Larsson commented on the goal last night at a digital press conference from the player’s hotel in Russia.

“Funny when you’re involved”

– Nice nod from Isak, he goes in perfectly, it feels like the doorman is coming out and he thinks he should get it and he comes first and puts it there, so it’s nice. It’s always more fun when you are involved in fixed situations and it results in goals, says the AIK player who continues:

– Personally, I have good confidence in myself in fixed situations and especially when it comes to trying to go straight to the goal when you are at that distance. Over the years, I have not had as many fixed situations, especially for final situations in the national team, as I have in my club teams, but I have a lot of confidence in myself there. I know very well that if you serve well, there are great opportunities to create something, it is an important part of football.

When it comes to free kicks, 35-year-old Sebastian Larsson over the years, particularly in British football, has scored dream goals and thrown sharp balls into the penalty area.

He has been an obvious foothold in fixed situations in his club’s teams, but he would have liked more opportunities in the national team where he has played since 2008.

– Of course, over the years they had wanted to drink more, of that there is no doubt, he says.

There have been reasons why he did not, something that he himself affirms without appreciating.

– As I said, it is something I have worked very hard for my entire career and I think I have been successful. Then there have been several reasons why I have not been the first in the queue in the national team, especially in terms of fast positions and free kick to go directly to goal, when Zlatan for a long period, of course, decided by they. But now that I’m on the track, I feel like I’m involved in the set shots, even on goal, but of course they would have wanted to take more over the years, he says.

“Gives more weight”

When Fotbollskanalen asks who decides on the situations set in the current national team, Sebastian Larsson gives his image.

– Basically, we have our old guys lined up and it comes from our league captains, it comes when we have our reviews. So it doesn’t have to be just one (player) when it comes to shots on goal, but it can be a couple that lines up for it depending on who is on the field and distance, says and points out:

– So it is natural that in the period when Zlatan played in the national team it was he who was configured as the one who took care of everything.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, as you know, also has a very strong blow. Furthermore, Kim Källström’s left foot was a strong alternative in the national team.

Have you become more varied in your fixed situations now?

– Possibly. I haven’t thought much about this, but we may have put a bit more emphasis on fixed situations lately and then I’m not talking so much about shots on target, but about corner variants and free kicks from the edge. We have a clear picture of the different variants we have. My feeling is that we have put more emphasis on it than before during my national team career.
