The alarm was received at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
– It was an individual who called the police. The person had not seen anyone on board, but had seen the ship turn and then go ashore, says Emilie Boyd, press officer for the Swedish Maritime Administration.
Now a search is underway to see if there may be people in the water.
– There are quite a few resources in Lake Mälaren with the Coast Guard and police searching with drones, seal dogs and helicopters, among other things.
How long does an operation like this last?
– Nobody wants to give up until they know for sure that nobody is hurt. Keep going until we find something.
The owner found in a good mood
Around lunchtime, the ship’s owner managed to locate, but the search is still continuing.
– We have found the owner of the boat in a good mood. It wasn’t the owner who started the engine, so to speak.
It is unclear if the boat may have been stolen or if there may be some other reason it was circulating in the water. Until they know more, the search continues.
– We want to be completely sure that there is no one in the area.
