Skåne Sports does not know how to fully interpret the tough new government directives and rules for public meetings in terms of training and competition.

– The message is very clear, we should not be more than eight people together. But we’ll get back to what that means when we learn more about how they reason, says Patrik Karlsson, district sports director in Skåne.

The limit for public events and public gatherings was lowered from 300 to 8 people, according to a proposal announced by Prime Minister Stefan Löfven at a digital press conference on Monday.

The amendment to the ordinance, which is based on the Public Order Law, will take effect on November 24 and will run for four weeks. The president of the Swedish Sports Confederation, Björn Eriksson, makes a direct connection to the issue of the audience for elite sports.

– In principle, this means that you will be free of audience. For eight or zero people there is no difference, he tells TT.

Patrik Karlsson, Skåne district sports director, doesn’t know if the government’s new stance will also have repercussions when it comes to sports in general.

– We have not received any internal information on what this means. The Swedish Sports Confederation is waiting a bit, they want to dialogue with the Public Health Agency before a response can be given, says Patrik Karlsson and continues:

– A general meeting is not if you do something in a limited and framed space where you have no audience. If you want to be strict, this is how it should be [de nya restriktionerna] not include it. But this is the kind of thing they have to fix.
