Sara Danius wrote a diary about the crisis

Sara Danius kept a diary during her time as permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy. A period marked by bitter disputes among members following the sex scandal surrounding club owner Jean-Claude Arnault, husband of academy member Katarina Frostenson.

The diaries are part of his private archive that the family donates to the Royal Library (KB).

Through the material

– We review the material so that the donation can be made. Legal and ethical considerations must also be taken into account. The job will take at least the entire fall, says Katinka Ahlbom, manager of KB’s manuscripts, maps and images unit.

– This is a private file in about 20 moving boxes. Besides diaries, they can be letters, manuscripts, documents, photographs and more, he says.

Members of the academy split into two camps during the turbulence, and several of them have described difficult years in which internal conflict was tearing apart the venerable institution.

Danius New Book

And when her diaries are made public in KB, we can read how Sara Danius saw the conflict from her position of “manager”, that is, permanent secretary.

In October, Albert Bonnier will publish a new book by Sara Danius.

– It will be a compilation volume with previously published texts and essays. It will be published on October 16, says Anna-Karin Korpi, Bonnierförlagen’s press and public relations officer.

Sara Danius died in October last year after a long illness.
