Foreign power exploits the crown crisis to weaken Sweden.
This is what Säpo warns in an office to the authorities of the whole country.
“Foreign power exploits this situation,” they write in the warning.
The document was sent to authorities’ security managers with sensitive operations and medical care earlier this week.
In the letter, the Security Police, Säpo, warns under the title “Covid-19 and security protection” that “the activities of the foreign power to weaken Sweden have intensified”.

As an example, in the letter, Säpo cites two vulnerabilities during the crown crisis that are at risk of being exploited and exploited by foreign power:

The letter also warns against espionage against video conferencing that is used when people work at home due to the crown crisis.

Security Police Chief Klas Friberg warned of the intelligence threat in relation to the crown crisis in March.
“Therefore, the Security Police calls in particular to ensure that classified information protected by security is not handled in information systems that are not intended for this purpose.”
“Follow the situation closely”
The document, which is of the “general advice” type, which the authorities are obliged to follow, encourages recipients to inform Säpo of all forms of activities that threaten security during the crown crisis.
“The security police are closely monitoring the situation due to the tense situation. The information about threats and incidents is of great importance so that we can take the correct measures ”, they write.

– The foreign power benefits from the difficult situation in which our society finds itself. This applies not only to Sweden, but we receive the same information from the security services of other countries. Exactly what we see we do not want to enter, but the current situation reinforces the vulnerabilities that already exist in our society. This means that we can see more cyber espionage, disinformation, impact operations and strategic acquisitions, he said in connection with the publication of the Swedish Security Agency of its annual book for 2019.
As in previous years, the Security Police identified two states as the greatest threat when it comes to espionage and other security threats: Russia and China.
