The Swedish Post and Telecommunications Agency still allows the company to participate in the auction for the new 5G network in Sweden.
Dagens Industri reports in Friday’s issue (note, paywall, login required) that telecom operator Tre, which is 40 percent owned by Wallenbergs Investor, can be considered a security risk against Sweden with its connections to Hong Kong and China.
Tdiningen has noted Säpo’s classified material in which a warning for Tre is issued to the Swedish Post and Telecommunications Agency, PTS.
Therefore, three are owned by 40% of Investor. But the other 60 percent of the company owns Hutchinson Europe Telecommunication, which Di says is in turn owned by Hong Kong-based stock exchange giant CK Hutchinson Holdings Limited.
“China one of the biggest threats to Sweden”
As previously reported by Dagens PS, PTS has decided, on the advice of the Security Police, to exclude Chinese Huawei from the development of the Swedish 5G network. The reason is a great concern that the Chinese communist regime exerts pressure that could harm Sweden.
“China is one of the biggest threats to Sweden. The Chinese state is conducting cyber espionage to promote its own economic development and develop its military capabilities. This is done through extensive intelligence gathering and theft of technology, research and development. This is what we must take into account when building the 5G network of the future. We cannot compromise on the security of Sweden, “said the head of Säpo. Klas Friberg in a comment to the Huawei ban.
In his statement to PTS, which Di now discloses, Säpo writes about investor-owned telecom operator Tre:
Säpo about Three: Causes vulnerabilities
In summary, the Security Police makes the assessment that the property relationship entails certain vulnerabilities that may imply a risk of influence or pressure from third countries ”.
Three claim they cannot comment on the Säpo statement, which they oppose:
“We do not share the view that there would be a risk to our property,” writes Tre’s communications manager. Mårten Lundberg in a comment to Di.
Despite Säpo’s warning to Tre, the telecom operator is now in the auction for the Swedish 5G network.
Other operators involved in the match are Tele2 and Telenor, Telia Sweden and Teracom.
