The New York vaccination began on Monday.
The first Pfizer syringe in town was for nurse Sandra Lindsey, who works in intensive care and has cared for coronary heart disease patients since the start of the pandemic.
The vaccination took place during a press conference, organized by the governor of the city, Andrew Cuomo, several American media report.
– It did not feel different compared to other vaccines, he said right after receiving the syringe from Pfizer, continuing:
– I feel good. I would like to thank everyone who works on the front line. I feel hopeful. I feel relieved.
“I think this is the weapon that ends the war”
On Friday, Pfizer’s vaccine was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the first doses were shipped nationwide on Sunday.
More than 35,000 people have died as a result of Covid-19 in New York.
“I think this is the weapon that will end the war,” Andrew Cuomo said just before the first dose of vaccine was issued.
Soon after, President Donald Trump tweeted:

According to Gustave F. Perna, who is leading the development of the federal vaccine in the United States, the vaccine will be delivered to 145 locations across the country on Monday. It will be delivered to another 425 locations on Tuesday, and then to 66 on Wednesday.
Most of the first doses are given to healthcare professionals who are considered to be at high risk of infection. Users in nursing homes also have priority, but are not expected to be vaccinated until next week, writes the New York Times.
