Bø earned his 11th career World Cup victory when he won the last mass outing at the German Oberhof. But he sought for a time to postpone victory.
After three straight zeros, he entered for the fourth shot with a small but clear lead, twelve seconds before the chase. But a boom in the last shooter standing meant a round of penalties and Tarjei Bø dropped the lead.
Samuelsson is the best Swede
But Bø was strong on the slopes and quickly caught up with the leading trio, Benjamin Weger, Simon Eder and Felix Leitner, on the final lap. And almost immediately he made a decisive jerk that no one could answer.
The Austrian Leitner and the Swiss Weger took the podium without problems. World Cup leader Johannes Thingnes Bø finished seventh, but was still 27.4 seconds behind his older brother Tarjei in goal despite four complete blocks.
Sebastian Samuelsson became the best Swede in 13th place, 41.5 seconds away from victory. Samuelsson entered for the last shot in eleventh position, just over half a minute behind Tarjei Bø and had a good chance of reaching first position. But then it had required full shots and Samuelsson blocked one shot, two in all, and went down.
Others much later
– Is stable. First I lie and then I have to chase all the competition. It’s a bit embarrassing that he couldn’t complete the last one, but overall it was good competition, Samuelsson tells SVT.
Martin Ponsiluoma fired two booms already on the first shot. When there was another in the third and two in the fourth, of course, his chances for the day were completely gone. Ponsiluoma was in 24th place, 1.55.8 behind.
Peppe Femiling was the last of the 30 headlines after four booms. Femling was 4.17 away from victory.
