Samsung has now given folding Galaxy Z Fold 2 a complete presentation, after the aperitif in early August. New Fold will be available in Sweden on September 18 for SEK 22,690 and can be pre-ordered from today.

The price has therefore dropped insignificantly compared to last year’s SEK 23,000 for the first model. This year’s Fold has a much larger exterior panel, as well as a camera island for the interior display in place of the big dark impact. The specialty of the Fold is that the construction can be folded, so that users get a normal (but thick) mobile and a tablet in the same construction.

The external display measures 6.2 ”diagonally and has a very elongated 25: 9 aspect ratio. The resolution is 816 x 2260 pixels, giving 386ppi. The internal flexible screen is 7.6 ”when unfolded, with 1768 x 2208 pixels, 22.5: 18 aspect ratio, 120Hz refresh rate, and 373ppi.

In terms of performance, the phone offers the latest and fastest: Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus (also in Europe), 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The battery offers 4500 mAh with support for 25 W fast charging, as well as wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.

Images and video are captured with three cameras. The main camera has 12MP, f1.8 aperture, 1.8µm pixel size and optical image stabilization. It sits alongside a 12MP telephoto lens and a 12MP super wide-angle camera. There are also two 10MP forward-facing cameras: one for the outer panel and one for the interior. The fingerprint reader is located on the side and the design offers NFC, USB-C, stereo speakers, and 5G.

The middle hinge should have gotten more durable and Samsung has taken new measures to prevent dust and dirt from entering the build. The flex panel is covered by extremely thin flexible glass, like the Z Flip. The glass in turn is covered by a plastic screen protector.

The price means that mobile phones with flexible screens remain an exclusive niche, but this is likely to change over time.
