Sakletaren Juni got his finger stuck in a ring – he got unexpected help

Shortly after June left for preschool, she went out to the schoolyard in search of treasures.

– She is a jacket hunter, always has been. Find everything from acorns in the forest to stones in the schoolyard. Of course, it’s more exciting if it shines, says mother Sabina Jarvinge.

Just this day, June discovered that: a ring from a broken combination lock lay on the ground and glowed.

– Then I had to try. The ring fit her little finger, but she wanted it on her ring finger, just like Mom and Dad, Sabina Jarvinge says.

And there it was later. The ring could not be altered. June’s teacher first tried soap and water, but soon realized it was to no avail. They then called Sabina, who was allowed to go find her.

Went to the emergency room

– We went home first and I thought that this would not be so difficult, I took out the pliers, I cooled my hand, but as much as I pulled, I could not let go, says Sabina Jarvinge.

They decided to go to the health center where they in turn tried to thread a thread around the ring, without success. They were then advised to go to the emergency room.

– Then you understood the seriousness of the moment.

I started to panic a little

As they were transmitted, the finger got bigger and worse.

– I felt like he started to panic a bit because we weren’t getting rid of him. I didn’t want him to have to feel that horrible feeling of having something attached to his body that you can’t get rid of. But he took it with great courage and it was super good, says Sabina Jarvinge.

Once in the emergency room, many wanted to try the ring, soap, wire and a special device for cutting jewelry were developed. However, he did not comment on the ring Juni found. Too thick.

By then, the ring had been stuck for almost four hours. Then came help.

Sawn in three different places

After the staff bit, they simply called the rescue service. Christer Hedén, Force Leader of the Greater Gothenburg Rescue Service, led the operation together with three colleagues.

– You need a special tool for things like this. It’s not often that we need to use it, but it happens, says Christer Hedén.

When firefighters encountered Sabina Jarvinge and Juni, they immediately began preparing to cut the ring. A rather complicated procedure that took almost a quarter of an hour. All four firefighters were needed to carry out the operation. One held a plastic cover against sparks from actual sawing, another was rinsed with water to cool the hand against heat build-up, and a third held June’s hand while Christer Hedén sawn.

– The most difficult thing is to peel a protection between the ring and the finger before cutting it. It hurts when it’s so tight, so we had to work with two types of protection, and she was a bit sad, but she was very strong and brave, says Christer Hedén.

To avoid twisting or prying the ring, it was cut in three places. Once one was released, the relief was enormous.

Firefighters from the Mölndal fire station withdrew and helped June. Anders Wassberg, Erik Larsson, Christer Hedén, and Greger Eriksson can be viewed here. Firefighter Fredrik Olofsson also participated but is not seen in the image. Photo: Private

Sackles too full again

– They were really the rescuers in need. Your safety and cooperation was so heavenly. Afterward, we were pampered and we took the ring home with us, says Sabina Jarvinge.

The next day, the family felt good despite the drama. June came home with a new bag of treasures and has placed the cut out ring in a special place in the playroom.

– We celebrated yesterday with pizza and movies. Now she’s doing the looting again. She usually does little installations, paste and paint what she finds, and then sets everything up as little works of art, says Sabina Jarvinge.

They also took the opportunity to thank the rescue service team for their help.

– They are true heroes.

Christer Hedén believes that while it was a relatively small effort, it is at the same time exactly what they exist for.

– This is what we do, we are there to help everyone when they need it. So it’s great that you wrote us such a nice thank you.
