Khaddi Sagnia is in the shape of her life and has improved her personal best several times this summer.

In Zagreb she was responsible for an incredible competition. She first hit her previous personal best of 6.83, then jumped 6.74 twice before landing the full blow of her life at 6.92 in the sixth and final jump.

Sagnia had a lot of room for the board and had no help from the wind. When she realized how far away she was, she erupted into a great roar of joy and ran forward and hugged Coach Katrin Klaup.

– It feels so heavenly good. It really is unbelievably fun. Today was also my coach’s birthday, so it was a pleasure to have a gift for her. The approach felt good and I had the flow with me today, Sagnia tells SVT Sport by phone.

“My best competition in my career”

Can you take us through the 6.92 jump?

– The jump earlier felt great, but I backed off a bit for safety because I felt like I could extend the steps. Once I got closer to the table, I felt “okay, this is going to be okay.” He really had the speed with me.

Did you still have room for the table?

– Exactly. It really is wonderful. When it’s okay, it’s okay, says Sagnia and continues:

– No matter how I adjusted today, I felt very confident when I got to the board. This was my absolute best competition of my career.

Approaching the Swedish record

Khaddi Sagnia has started this summer to get close to the Swedish record in earnest. She is now just three inches from Erica Johansson’s 2000 Swedish record of 6.99. The world record holder is Galina Tjistjakova with 7.52.

26-year-old jumper Ullevi FK is also third in the world.

– This means a lot for self confidence. I’ve had a few issues but all the hard work is behind us and this really shows that we are on the right track. You have to go step by step and not stress. Once the puzzle pieces snap into place, they do.

How are you going to celebrate this?

– My trainer also has one, so it will probably be some champagne. Before the last jump I felt a little pressure, I really wanted to be over 90 today and give him that gift. She is worth it.
