Sobol, close to Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny, is accused of trying to illegally break into an apartment in Moscow earlier this week.

But according to Navalny and Sobol supporters, he is said to have called on Monday from the man Navalny designated as an FSB security service agent. Sobol was detained by police outside the man’s apartment.

“Untouchable assassins”

The man in the apartment was involved in the Navalny poisoning in August, according to the opposition activist team.

Russian authorities, for their part, claim that Lyubov Sobol and several other people tried to infiltrate the apartment of an elderly woman by disguising themselves in medical clothing.

“They lock up the mother of a small child for two days to explain to everyone: don’t dig in this case. Don’t help yourself keep up with our killers and poisoners knocking on their door. These killers are untouchable,” he added. Alexei Navalny writes in a sarcastic statement on Twitter.

It was earlier in the week that it was revealed that Navalny had called the agent and introduced himself as a high-ranking member of the Russian National Security Council. During the conversation, the agent openly said that Navalny was poisoned in August by placing the neurotoxin novitjok in his underwear.

Suspicions to the top

Navalny is currently in a secret location in Germany. According to German doctors and other experts, in August he was exposed to the novitjok neurotoxin developed by the Soviets.

Suspicions have risen to the highest place in Russia. The EU has imposed sanctions, among others, on the head of the FSB, Aleksandr Bortnikov.

Moscow has consistently denied its involvement and has responded with counter-sanctions.
