The doomsday plane will be used if the world breaks out in nuclear war.

In the windowless ship, President Putin will remain alive and in power.

Now the perpetrators have managed to break into the Russian superplanet and steal secret equipment.

Russia has a total of four aircraft of the Ilyushin-80 type. Military aircraft are meant to be used as mobile command centers if disaster strikes and the world ends in nuclear war.

There, top government officials and military leadership will stay alive and rule the country.

The idea is to be able to stay in the air for several days during an acute crisis. The plane has no windows so passengers are not blinded by nuclear explosions.

Now, Interior Ministry officials in the southern Russian city of Taganrog have confirmed that one of the so-called doomsday plans has been the target of a brazen coup at the city’s airport.

Entered through the cargo hatch

Somehow, the perpetrators managed to get close to the high-security plane, broke the cargo hatch and stole equipment for radio communication.

The Russian television channel Ren-TV claims that the police have secured prints and fingerprints inside the plane, writes The Guardian. No one has been arrested for the thefts so far.

According to information to Interfax, the theft was reported to the local police in Taganrog on December 4, but now it was announced earlier in the week. The plane must have been repaired and was last inspected in late November. At the time, all equipment was intact, writes the BBC.

The coup raises questions about Russia’s security around its strategic military equipment, the TV station writes.

Many of the details of the aircraft’s equipment and capabilities are classified by Russia. There is no information on how sensitive stolen equipment may be. According to the BBC, 39 unspecified computers and five radio cards have disappeared.

It has a very long antenna

But it is known that the doomsday plan must, among other things, be equipped with a retractable antenna several kilometers long that can be used to stay in contact with nuclear-armed submarines.

The aircraft has been in service since 1987 and will soon be replaced by a more modern fleet that will be able to fly longer. The new aircraft will be able to withstand the electromagnetic pulse, EMP, that occurs during nuclear explosions. Electronic components are often destroyed by the enormous forces that electromagnetism creates.

Improved airplanes also have better communication equipment.

America has an equivalent to the Russian doomsday plans. They also have four planes. The fleet consists of modified Boeing 747-200 aircraft that the President and his staff will fly on during a nuclear crisis.
