Before the world premiere in Ruka, Therese Johaug did her best to lower expectations of herself and singled out Swedish Frida Karlsson as the favorite on the mini tour.
But after two races, it is Johaug who has a clear advantage, and everything indicates that he will take home the victory in Sunday’s start.
“Of course it was just a mind game signed by Therese Johaug”, SportExpressen columnist Tomas Pettersson writes about Norway’s remarks ahead of opening weekend.
He continues: “Everyone should have learned their lesson by now. By now, everyone should have seen Therese Johaug.”
“So I defended her”
On Saturday afternoon, Johaug appeared at a digital press conference run by the Norwegian Ski Association. Then, VG asked him questions about the chronicle.
– So I can only answer that last year I received criticism because I did not believe in Frida here in Ruka, then I defended her, says Johaug.
And that is correct.
Before the premiere last year, Therese Johaug was careful to point out that it was too early to have high expectations of the young Swede. Some then said that Johaug tried to fight off Frida Karlsson’s threat.
– If you want me to go fast, I can absolutely believe in her and that she will win ski races, says Johaug.
She continues:
– They lean in the direction they want, so I don’t care.
