Vaccination against covid-19 began on Sunday morning in the Västra Götaland region.

In Gothenburg, Rosa Johansson, 99, in Högsbotorphemmet was the first to leave.

– It’s a great time. I hope I don’t have to go to bed, Rosa says immediately after vaccination.

A total of four nursing homes in Gothenburg will receive the first delivery of vaccines: Svaleboskogen, Kaverös äng, Gerdas gård and Högsbohemmet.

400 doses on Sunday

At 11.00, the Västra Götaland region invited to a press conference, together with the city of Gothenburg.

– Today we are going to vaccinate about 400 people, says Ann Söderström, director of health and medical care in the Västra Götaland region at today’s press conference.

According to Söderström, the hope is that the region will receive a few thousand more doses in the next few days:

– We have approximately 22,000 people living in special housing in Västa Götaland and we hope to receive as much vaccine as possible in the coming weeks.

“A light in the dark”

During the morning, Prime Minister Stefan Löfven gave a speech to the nation on the government website.

– 2020 has been a year of testing. The corona virus has affected us as a country and as people, says a serious prime minister and then adds.

– A light in this darkness is the vaccine.

But at the same time I believe that the danger has not passed. Löfven says that the public should continue to follow the authority’s recommendations, such as keeping their distance and washing their hands.

– We will endure and persevere, a little more.
