Several Rohingya are being held in a special section of the Hira Nagar prison in Jammu, northern India, waiting for local authorities to decide whether they have a legal basis to be in India, two told Reuters on Sunday. Indian officials. The two are not officially allowed to speak to the media.

Many of the hundreds of thousands of Rohingya who have fled their homeland are in Bangladesh, on the border with Myanmar.

Myanmar’s previous government, which was toppled in a military coup, has been charged with attempted genocide. The allegations were denied and the leadership has previously claimed that the military had to fight threats of revolt from the Rohingya.
