On Saturday morning, the club wrote on Twitter that its board member, Robert Sundqvist, and academy director Stefan Lundin, were involved in a nasty car accident on Friday.
The club writes on its website that Sundqvist did not survive the accident. Lundin’s location has not been disclosed, but ÖFK writes that he is now being treated at Uppsala University Hospital. Lundin started his job as director of the club’s academy a week ago.
“This is a terrible accident and today our thoughts are with Robert’s family and Stefan’s family. Robert has worked hard at ÖFK for a long time and it is with great sadness that we note that he is no longer with us,” writes Michael Schahine, CEO of Östersund.
ÖFK plays its last match at this year’s Allsvenskan on Sunday. At the meeting with Malmö FF, mourning bands will be used to honor Robert Sundqvist.
Östersund is currently in twelfth place in the table. A place over IFK Gothenburg, which the team lost 4-0 in the last round.
