On Saturday the Women’s Mountain Biking World Cup was decided in Leogang, Austria. For a long time, it looked like Swedish jumper Jenny Rissveds would run the entire race and cycle around 20th place. But after the second lap she was forced to break.
– You do not have the strength to complete this type of race today. The course is simply too difficult for her. Also, he has not had time to complete the required hours of training due to the last concussion. Of course she is disappointed. She wanted more today, says manager Johan Elliot.
In connection with the race The news also came that Rissveds is ahead of the European Championship next week. With that, your season is over.
– We already made the decision on Tuesday. Jenny is not dominating any more races at the moment and is instead aiming for the 2021 season, says Johan Elliot.
Rissveds was not the only one to break the race. It was a slippery and muddy road that claimed many victims. A total of five 3.6 km laps had to be cut on a track with an ascent of 210 meters.
At the top of the black mamba, I expected a steep descent where many cyclists were forced to get off the bike and ride it.
– The organizers managed to put together a course in just a few months. So it seems so. In normal cases it never gets so muddy and slippery during a mountain bike race. Downhill tracks get very dangerous and that’s why a lot of people got off the bike, says Johan Elliot.
Jenny Rissveds won sensationally 2016 Olympics, but then suffered a two-year depression. Last year he came back and won, among other things, a World Cup competition. But last summer he crashed and had a concussion. The World Cup race was meant to be an opportunity to learn how to compete without being burdened by pressure.
The victory went to Frenchwoman Pauline Ferrand Prevot, who took command early in the race. The French was completely superior and until the second it was three minutes.
