The Swedish Football Association closes two referees.
One is convicted of sexual crimes. The other is suspected of money laundering.
– Confirmed. We are awaiting the police investigation, but of course he is disconnected from all federal assignments as a judge, says SvFF Chief Judge Stefan Johannesson of the latter.
The referee corps of the Swedish Football Association (SvFF) is blowing hard right now.
Just over a month ago, Sportbladet was able to reveal that a high-level soccer referee has been repeatedly convicted of sexual harassment.
And as recently as yesterday information came in that another judge is having bad weather. In that case, it is instead serious fraud and money laundering.
Now SvFF referee Stefan Johannesson confirms that both referees will be suspended for the time being.
“It is not apropiate”
As for the judge convicted of a sex offense, the SvFF judging committee has made a formal decision to suspend him.
– You are not eligible to represent SvFF as a judge and therefore will not be selected as a judge in SvFF federal competitions. This applies until further notice and until conditions exist to make a new assessment of the judge’s suitability as a judge, Johannesson says.
The referee also explains that such a test can be carried out in the fall of 2021 at the earliest, before the 2022 football season.
Confirmed but not official
As for the judge suspected of serious fraud and money laundering, the investigation is still ongoing and the SvFF has not made a formal decision.
However, they choose to act in other ways until further notice.
– We have received the confirmed information. We are awaiting the police investigation, but obviously he is disconnected from all federal assignments as a judge, says Johannesson.
For a formal decision to be made in this case, the SvFF must await the court’s ruling.
