GOTHENBURG. Poya Asbaghi, 35, is fired by IFK Gothenburg, Sportbladet learns.
The club has called a press conference at 11.00 on Thursday.
According to information from Sportbladet, the IFK Gothenburg management announced to Asbaghi early Thursday morning that he is no longer the responsible coach of IFK Gothenburg A-team.
On Wednesday evening, GT wrote that IFK Gothenburg’s management and board have sat in the past few days in several meetings in which, among other things, Asbaghi’s future was high on the agenda.
The newspaper indicated that a list of possible replacements had begun to be drawn up.
Sportbladet participated in similar information with the addition that on Thursday it would be decided whether Poya Asbaghi would be fired with immediate effect or if he would be given the opportunity in a few more rounds to reverse the negative trend.

Now the IFK Gothenburg management, led by club director Max Markusson and sporting director Kennet Andersson, has made a decision, according to Sportbladet sources: Asbaghi can leave immediately.
Asbaghi has been IFK Gothenburg’s coach since 2018. Already during the first season under his leadership, IFK Gothenburg was in a bad situation, but then the coaching staff was reinforced by U coaches Hjalmar Jonsson and Hannes Stiller during the fall to ensure that Blåvitt did not participate in the battle for relegation.
This time around, IFK Gothenburg’s management makes the decision to eliminate Asbaghi entirely when IFK Gothenburg only had two victories at this year’s Allsvenskan and failed to win in 13 matches. The team has only one point for the ranking position in the table.
