In July, an elderly woman was assaulted in connection with her walk on the beach in Falkenberg. The perpetrator arrived by bicycle, stabbed the woman, and then fled the scene. The woman was taken to hospital where she received care for serious injuries.
The investigation made a breakthrough when a man in his 25s was arrested in early September on suspicion of attempted murder.
But now the suspect has been released. There is insufficient evidence against the man to press charges in the case, on which SVT Nyheter Halland was the first to report.
– We have converted all the stones, but if I am to prosecute, I must wait for us to reach a conviction and we do not do it today, says the district attorney Gisela Sjövall to SVT.
Denies the crime
According to SVT, decisive evidence is needed. The knife with which the victim was attacked could not be found. However, according to prosecutor Gisela Sjövall, the preliminary investigation will continue, albeit at a slower pace.
The suspect is already unpunished. He was released on Thursday.
– Formally, he’s still a suspect, but he’s out on bail, defense attorney Gunilla Johansson tells GT.
She emphasizes that her client denies the crime.
No relationship
According to what was previously expressed by the prosecutor to GT, there is no relationship between the victim and the suspect. The victim appears to have been selected at random.
Initially, another man was a suspect in the same case. However, he was quickly released and the suspicions against him were dispelled.
