For almost 30 years, his mother has kept the son locked up in the apartment.
On Sunday, a family member entered the apartment for the first time in decades and found their son lying in a dark corner.
– They haven’t seen us for more than 20 years, but when our eyes met, they whispered my name over and over again, the relative tells Expressen.
It is said that almost 30 years ago, the woman closed the door of the apartment in Stockholm. Inside was his son, who since that day was locked in the apartment, which Aftonbladet was able to reveal yesterday.
When they found the son, now 40, he was lying on a blanket on the apartment floor.
According to information from Aftonbladet, the man must be severely malnourished, lack all the teeth in his mouth, have sores all over his body, and have poor language.
It was Sunday night that a relative of the man entered the apartment for the first time in many, many years. The relative tells Expressen that he understood that something was wrong already outside the apartment, but that he could never guess what was waiting on the other side of the door.
– It was like going from reality to a horror movie, the relative tells the newspaper.

When the relative reached the locked up son, he is said to have said the person’s name multiple times, according to Expressen.
I tried to sound the alarm
The relative says he tried to sound the alarm about the mother’s control over the son several years ago. But that everything should have been silenced by other relatives.
But when the relative found out Sunday that the man’s mother was in the hospital, the decision was made to go to the department.
– I understood that he was there and that he must have been afraid because his mother was his only safety and now he had left, the relative tells the newspaper.
“Whispered my name”
In the dirty apartment it smelled rotten, the relative tells Expressen, they had to walk through piles of garbage and it could not have been cleaned in several years.
The relative heard a sound from a dark corner of the apartment and tells Expressen that the man immediately began to whisper the relative’s name:
They haven’t seen us in over 20 years, but when our gazes met, he whispered my name over and over.
Investigate illegal deprivation of liberty
Several sources constant to Aftonbladet claim that the mother, due to a previous incident in the family, was “very overprotective” and that the son was taken out of school as early as his teens. Since then, it is suspected that the now adult man was incarcerated at his home.
Stockholm Police spokesman Ola Österling confirms that a preliminary investigation is underway.
-What we can say at this time is that we are investigating an illegal deprivation of liberty, he says.
