On Thursday, the ban on visiting nursing homes and care, which was introduced on April 1, will be lifted, and regions and municipalities will react differently to the announcement.
The Västerbotten region recommended to the municipality of Umeå that all visitors and employees of the municipality’s nursing homes, which have increased the spread of the infection, wear mouth guards, mainly in October.
– The municipality of Umeå chooses to follow the recommendation of the region. When you stay in a municipality accommodation, you have mouth guards, both for visitors and staff. We will provide mouth protection to staff. Those visiting family members bring a mouth guard, says operations manager Malin Sundbom in a press release.
Due to increased infection also recommends that special housing in the Dalarna region and Smittskydd Dalarna county continue with a restraining order as before.
– We will reconsider the county’s special housing recommendations from week to week, says assistant infection control doctor Helena Ernlund in a news release.
In the municipality of Mora, currently large heated tents will be set up for outdoor visits and other municipalities will continue with video calls and outdoor visits.
The country’s municipalities have issued guidelines that both family members and residents are responsible for following. Relatives often have to inform residents at what time they want to visit their elders, and visitors generally cannot stay in common rooms, but are instead referred to their relatives’ apartment. Also, as usual, you should be symptom free, keep your distance, and wash and spray your hands frequently.
The decision to lift the restraining order It came from the National Board of Health and Welfare and the Public Health Agency on September 15. The motivation was that the spread of the infection in society had decreased and that measures had been taken in the care of the elderly. In support of housing and visitors, the authorities have presented documents on aspects such as visiting routines, distance and hygiene.
– The spread of the infection looks different in different parts of the country and therefore it is reasonable that the regions that are based on it adapt their routines for visits. The important thing is that you have a good dialogue with visitors so that they know what is happening and find out, says Malin Grape, unit manager of the Swedish Public Health Agency.
Speaking of the infection increasing again in some places, it says:
– Although the infection is increasing now, the levels are completely different than when the restraining order was entered. Of course, you have to follow the situation you live in.
Malin Grape also says that The Swedish Public Health Agency, in consultation with infection control physicians, may in the future introduce local regulations limiting home visits.
– If there is a further spread of the infection in a place, we should be able to decide on a local deterrence from visiting nursing homes right there.
